MG Midgets used the same engine as the Triumph Spitfire by the late 1970s, when BL decided to install the Triumph 1500 unit in both cars. Here’s a very informative video of what a 1500 looks like after it’s imploded, and some discussion of useful modifications such as expanding the oil gallery to the centre main bearing (and 2 inner conrod bearings) to 5/16″ from 1/4″.
